Australia is a multicultural society, and diversity is found in remote, rural and urban areas.  Most Australians regularly experience situations where they mix with people from a cultural background that is different from their own.  However family ties, historical patterns of settlement and access to places of worship mean that many Australians will spend a significant amount of their time with people from a cultural background that is similar to their own.
